While thru-hiking I had the choice to go to Franklin or to this lodge - boy, what a smart choice I made! The lodge is fantastic - immaculate, well-appointed with beautiful furniture and other amenities to the greatest detail, and you're surrounded everywhere by warm wood and natural stone. Steve will customize your stay to your every need, and is a wealth of information on the area and on thru-hiking. Maggie is the sweetest - she's a great chef, will cater to vegetarians, and we'll even do your laundry! The accommodations and services are a bargain. My stay will undoubtedly be a top highlight on my journey!
Slowalker Tuesday, 3/8/16,
I was looking for a place to get out of some arriving snow on my hike from Deep Gap to Fontana Dam. Someone recommended I contact Steve and Maggie for a possible stopping point. I called and told Steve I would arrive Tellico Gap around 3:00 and the snow hit at noon. I received a message from Steve expressing concern with the weather while I was on the trail offering to pick me up earlier at Burningtown Gap if I preferred. I called from Tellico Gap when I arrived and he was there within minutes. Steve is a Thru hiker and understands what is important. Clean accommodations, hot shower, good food and some laundry service. He even had my boots on a dryer for me. I truly felt I was a guest and not just a number. Steve offered good trail advice as well. You will be happy if you make this stop along the way. Thank you Steve and Maggie.
Aquone Cabins and their owners Steve and Maggie have made me feel as pampered and cared for as I would have by my own family. No other hostel on the A.T. has done what they have done for me spiritually. I have been treated with respect and shown nothing but kindness and assistance on my every need. Thanks Steve & Maggie!

As I approach 8,500 miles on the AT one hostel/lodge still stands out as the better appointed, better conceived (former thru hikers know what hikers crave) and better operated than the rest: that's Aquone! Steve and Maggie know their stuff. The hospitality, the lodge and cabins and the hiker support is unsurpassed on the trail. I stayed 3 nights this hiking season as I continued to hike north from Wayah Gap to NOC. Treat yourself right when hiking thru the area: Aquone is the best choice from Hiawassee to Fontana Dam. I will return. What a great place!

What an amazing place! The workmanship and care in the building alone is enough to warrant a visit! Wiggy and Maggie make us feel right at home and make sure all our needs are taken care of. I would come here just for a nice getaway, even when I am not one of those crazy nomadic hikers! Very glad I made the choice to come here. I still have a couple thousand miles to go on the trail, but I suspect few places will be up to par with this! Going to do a bit of promo for them on my blog (twohikingidiots.com). Thanks for a great couple of days!!

Very lovely lodging. So stunning! I learned last minute about Aquone Lodge and I'm so glad I'm here. Dinner was GREAT. I can't wait for breakfast. I highly recommend!!

This place is unbelievable! Maggie and Wiggy are incredible people. Their hostel is a clean as any house you will ever visit. Their "check in" process is a friendly rapid fire approach to comfort and cleanliness. From the time you get there until the time you are showered and dressed in the camp clothes they provide is just a few minutes. They have a gear drying room so there is no wet muddy smelly gear in the main house....simply incredible!

Gracious, thoughtful, kind and attentive. These attributes define the atmosphere of this glorious AT hostel and cabin compound.
Maggie and Wiggie, the proprietors, made me feel welcome even before I arrived and gave me invaluable tips upon departure.
I thank them for my stay in their pristine lodge, the home style cooking, clean laundry, and attention to detail that's abundant without being obsessive.
In short, I've grown very fond of them and appreciated their hospitality.

After many more miles under my pack in, I've come back to the guestbook to thank Steve and Maggie again for a wonderful stay back in May. All around the best value, most enjoyed, and most luxurious hiking hostel experience I've had on the A.T. this year. I slack-packed 3 days with Steve, his trail experience and sage advice helped me meet my slackpacking goals as I was "hiking to a schedule" at a crucial point in my hike. Discriminating hikers and NC slack-packers alike... Take in Aquone, and go with the flow. You'll be glad you did.

An amazing experience from start to finish. Outstanding facilities, cleanliness and a very detailed, well thought out process to insure every hikers (and vacationers) need is met during their stay. Add Maggie's cooking and kindness and Steve's knowledge and experience on the trail and genuine caring that you meet your goals and this is so much more than the best hostel on the trail. This is a world class establishment that happens to be on the trail!

We cannot say enough about Wiggy & Maggie. They made our stay very enjoyable and took care of our every need. This place is beautiful! And wow can Maggie cook a delicious meal! Spending some time with Steve is like having a tour guide, teacher and friend all in one. Our family will be back real soon to continue our hike and again for a vacation.

Oh the amenities! From the clean camp clothes, laundry service, snack shop, wonderful home cooked meals to shuttle service to and from the trail, I honestly couldn't have asked for anything more! Simply fantastic place! Thanks a million, Maggie and Wiggy! Happy trails!!!

This place is earning the reputation as; "the most luxurious hostel on the A.T." And I totally agree! This place is wonderful, and the hospitality by Wiggy and Maggie is unparalleled. I give it five stars!
The Aquone Lodge is owned and operated by Maggie and Steve (Thru hiker Wiggy). They are very gracious and caring. Maggie is a great cook and today started with breakfast of waffles (I ate THREE), bananas and strawberries and coffee. Wiggy has dropped me off at Wayah Gap, Burningtown Gap and tomorrow Telico Gap, where I shall finish my Nantahala Mountain section by hiking into NOC. Thank you to Steve & Maggie I had a truly wonderful three day stay. DO NOT hike past this Lodge, the things people are saying about Aquone Hiker Lodge are absolutely true; a bright shiny gem in the Nantahala forest.
Wow, from the moment I entered the door, there was courtesy, professionalism, and warmth from Steve and Maggie. A fantastic team! Maggie's home cooked healthy meals, and clean clothes were just the right touch. Steve's attention to detail and knowledge of the trail and human body has been exemplary! Highly recommended hostel/lodge and one that I know will not be outdone on the entire AT. Thank you for the advice and rest!
